Assessments

At Dragonfly Psychology Clinic, we offer assessments tailored to meet the unique needs of your child. Our psychoeducational assessment is comprehensive, which provides valuable insights into your child’s cognitive abilities, academic skills, executive function, attention, memory, emotional well-being, and social development. Our psychoeducational assessment can identify diagnoses related to intellectual, learning, behavioural and emotional functioning that may enable your child to access support services within both the school system and the community. We also offer Intellectual Giftedness-only assessment and ADHD-only assessment.

Here’s what you can expect:

Understanding Your Child: Our assessments help unravel your child’s strengths and challenges, providing a holistic picture of their learning and emotional profile. This knowledge forms a foundation for creating effective support strategies.

Personalized Intervention Plans: We believe in individualized approaches. The assessment results guide the development of personalized education plans and interventions, ensuring that your child receives the specific support they need to thrive academically and emotionally.

Collaborative Approach: We work closely with parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure a collaborative and informed approach to your child’s development. Your insights are valuable, and we aim to create a partnership for the best possible outcomes.

The Process for the Assessment:

  1. Parent/Caregiver Interview: We begin with a discussion to understand your concerns and gather relevant information about your child
  2. Assessment Sessions: Your child will engage in a series of activities, tests, or discussions, all conducted in a supportive and comfortable environment. We use questionnaires for parents and teachers to gather insights about your child’s behavior at home and in school.
  3. “Behind the Scene” Work: We will review relevant documents, score and analyze test results, contact your child’s school and support team, and document all the information in a written report.
  4. Feedback Session: We will discuss personalized recommendations and intervention strategies and provide you with a detailed report of the assessment findings.

At Dragonfly Psychology Clinic, we recognize the importance of understanding and addressing the unique needs of every child. If you’re concerned about your child’s behavior, social interactions, or communication skills, an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment may provide valuable insights. This assessment is a thorough and thoughtful process designed to identify and understand your child’s strengths, challenges, and individual characteristics. Our assessment battery includes Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) and Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Ed. (ADOS-2), which are required by the province of British Columbia for autism funding. If your child meets the criteria of Autism Spectrum Disorder after being assessed by our team, the child would qualify for the same funding as those completed through the public system.

The Process of the Assessment:

  1. Parent/Caregiver Interview: We begin with a discussion to understand your concerns and gather relevant information about your child, followed by the Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R).
  2. Assessment Sessions: Your child will engage in a series of activities and discussions, which include the use of ADOS-2. We use questionnaires for parents and teachers to gather insights about your child’s behavior at home and in school.
  3. “Behind the Scene” Work: We will review relevant documents, score and analyze test results, contact the child’s school and support team, and document all the information in a written report.
  4. Feedback Session: We will discuss personalized recommendations and intervention strategies and provide you with a detailed report of the assessment findings. We encourage open communication during this session and welcome any questions or concerns you may have. If the child meets the criteria for an Autism Spectrum Disorder, we will complete the Non-BCAAN form for you to submit to the autism funding agency.
